Character Matters

Martin Luther King would not have been for rioting and looting. He was for peaceful redress of grievances according to the law.

He said; "I look forward to the day when a man will not be judged by the color of his skin but by his character." So many people leave off the "by his character."

Why do people forget that Martin Luther King was concerned about the character of a man? So many people read his quotes and completely forget that character does matter and character determines actions.

Proverbs 6:16-19
"There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."

Psalm 1:1
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;"

The character of our companions tells us a lot about ourselves. We choose to be around those whom we prefer. Those who have constant wicked friends are themselves wicked. No one is comfortable around evil unless they too are evil. Those who have constant kind and good friends desire to be like that.

1 John 2:3-4
"And by this, we know that we have come to know him if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,"

2 Thessalonians 3:6
"Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us."
