Rejecting the cultural Christianity I grew up with to embrace and enjoy a relationship with Jesus Christ. A place to come and share thoughts about almost anything. Especially things of the Lord. Please no Anonymous posts, I enjoy knowing who is writing to me.

Adding to the Word of God
I find that those who try to complicate things do so just to be able to "add" to the Bible without anyone noticing.
Righteousness Not Words
Your life would prove your words! What or who you love shows who you are!
If you love the things of the world, then you do not love God.
If you love the things of God, then you love Him.
1 John 2:14-16 "14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world.…"
If your life does not match your words then you are a liar. If your words match your life, then you speak the truth. One who lives righteously will never have to tell anyone they do.
Those who have to constantly remind others of their "righteousness", usually based on the things they say they must "do", then perhaps they are not as righteous as they would like everyone to believe.
Matthew 5:15-16 "…15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a lampstand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Seek the Bible for Truth not the Culture
So many people who claim to be Christians say they are "Bible believing", but on close inspection there is very little of the Bible they actually obey!
The matter of divorce and remarriage has been completely twisted and even ignored by many. There is a tolerance and acceptance of divorced and remarried couples without ever a mention to them that remarriage is living in adultery. The pressure to be seen as a loving and tolerant person has managed to set aside the principles of God in favor of social acceptance.
Luke 16:18 "18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits (meaning in the original language: committing adultery, is on going circumstance) adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
The matter of honoring parents is ignored, and completely misunderstood in our time. Adult children think honoring their parents means sending gifts on the holidays and dropping in for dinner occasionally.
Honor of parents is far more than that, it is valuing them as human beings, appreciating all they did for you while enjoying their company, even inquiring from them when life becomes confusing, when years of experience is required to discover an answer.
Of course there are parents who are dangerous and involved in illegal activities, I am not talking about those parents. I am discussing parents who have flaws but have demonstrated a level of love through their care for their children.
Many adult children mock the wisdom of their parents, believing that they don't have much if anything to offer, often feeling free to lecture their parents as though the parents are the children.
Another aspect of disobedience to the word is the matter of "hiding the word away in your heart." Very few "Christians in our culture know the Bible, I don't mean knowing a few passages, but actually knowing deeply the principles and stories of God.
I have had some of these Christians fight an argue to defend a principle that is not in the Word, because their favored preacher or teacher said it was so, not because they prayed about it, read the word and came to true knowledge.
I have even had believers who quote things from famous people as though they came from the Bible, when they came from a pagan leader and had no basis in the Word.
Some of those quotes are: The unBiblical statements in quotes gathered here, were from an article by Shane Pruitt.
"God helps those who help themselves", this is no where in the Word, in fact the Word says God helps those who cannot help themselves.
"God would want me to be happy", also is no where in the Word. There are many instances in the Word where God warns us that we will be persecuted and suffer for doing what is right.
"We're all God's children", this is not so at all, only those who have trusted Christ and become born again are God's children, all others are "bastard" children, as God puts it.
"Cleanliness is next to godliness", has no basis in Scripture. God might desire us to be clean, but cleanliness does not make someone close to God, even non-believers like to be clean.
"Bad things happen to good people", bad things happen to everyone, we are all equally bad without Christ, and those who have Christ are only good because of Him. God says that "none is righteous, no not one."
"When you die God gets another angel", this is the silliest things I have heard yet, no human being ever turns into an angel, they are a separate class of beings created by God.
This list could be very long, so many things our culture has taught were not from the Bible and do not glorify God. It is vitally important that we seek the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to gain truth, rather than looking to the culture for answers.
