Don't Neglect the Discipline

Our culture does not understand love, it is far more than just making someone happy, it is for the most part, helping someone be holy before God. If we love we seek to do what is right in God's eyes for the sake of our brother or sister. It is sharing in all their experiences of life with the principles of God as the guide.

1 Timothy 4:7 "Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;"

Romans 12:15 "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."

If we make someone happy but help them feel comfortable in their sin, then we have not loved them, we have shown contempt for them and love only for ourselves. Our desire to be loved by them took precedence over their welfare.

Proverbs 20:30 "Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, as do stripes the inner depths of the heart."

Hebrews 12:11 "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."

Proverbs 13:24 "Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him."

1 Corinthians 9:27 "But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified."

Hebrews 12:5-11 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? ..."

Revelation 3:19 "Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent."

Proverbs 6:23 "For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,"

Proverbs 29:17 "Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart."

Proverbs 22:15 "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him."

2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death."

When we walk with God we have great joy, as He continually cleanses us as needed, we will feel the spiritual blows of discipline to grow us in holiness, it is a blessing.
