What Was Church REALY Like In The First Century?

Judge Ourselves First and Then Judge Others Righteously

Some people are living good, law-abiding lives, proud of themselves, but doing it to appear superior without trusting in Christ; these are those who are not saved.

These kind of people judge others over matters that do not offend God but do affend them. They love to elevate themselves while neglecting to judge themselves.

1 Corinthians 11:30-32 "…30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world."

Matthew 7:21-23 "21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’"

Matthew 7:1-5
“Do not judge, or you will be judged. / For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. / Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?"

We are commanded to judge righteously, first ourselves and then those we love so as to be helpful to them when they stray from the truth.

James 1:23-25 "For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after observing himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does."

The Law Giver is Jesus Christ

When we are born again, the Law Giver lives in us and we become a conviction to those who are not saved, not because we follow the Law, but because the Law changed us into an entirely new creation.

Jesus Christ is the very essence of His Law, the embodiment of all that is righteous. He is the judge and we are His messengers if we are born again!

2 Timothy 4
Preach the Word
"4 I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires,
4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
5 But as for you, use self-restraint in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
