Commandments in Public Places?

I was asked recently if I would be for the ten commandments being posted in public places. My answer may shock some of you who are believers.

The answer: No! No one can be saved by following the ten commandments. Our culture would not follow them anyway, but would say there were.

If we, as believers, are going to post something, it ought to be the gospel message, that there is salvation in Christ alone, through faith in Him.

When we post the ten commandments in public places, we send the message that one can follow them, making them a better person, making society a better place to live, when in fact, God said no one can follow all of them and that is what is required. He said that if we stumble in one we have broken them all. Only the holiness of Christ in us saves.

Many people think they follow the commandments when they don't, they are left feeling proud of themselves for what they think they do, but in fact are not doing.

No one is saved by obeying the ten commandments, but someone can get saved by pointing them to the One Who saves through His shed blood on the cross. Can you imagine what would happen if someone suggested that we have a sign in public places telling people that Christ shed His blood for our sins and the only way to salvation is through believing Christ and trusting Him?

Our heart condition is far more important to God than anything else. If He changes our heart into a new creation, then our actions will follow. Christ is the Law, He comes to live in us, He changes how we think, which in turn affects our actions and attitudes.

Knowing what is in the Bible does not save anyone, following the commandments does not save anyone, if relied upon instead of Christ, then these actions create pride, preventing true salvation through faith in Christ.

Now ask me what I would post in public places, that of course would be rejected by Christians let alone the culture we live in?

Here is what a public sign should look like:
__________________________________________________________________
"We are sinful creatures, without the ability to obey God or save ourselves.
Christ died to save us from our sin and hell, because the only way sin can be paid for , is through the shedding of blood, that is how serious the smallest sin is.
Christ shed His blood on our behalf, all we have to do is admit we are sinful and cannot save ourselves, desiring to be cleansed by Him, then He will come to dwell in us, working His works in us."

Hebrews 9:22 "And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Ephesians 2:10 "10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."
