There is a spiritual attack on everyone. The born again believers have Christ to turn to but the unsaved have no defenses.

"But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me."
2 Timothy 2:23

"But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, arguments, and quarrels about the Law, because these things are pointless and worthless."
1 Peter 2:11
"Beloved, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul."
We are foreigners in this land, we are citizens of heaven, this is the reason we do not fit into this world or in our family structures. Very few born again believers were raised in godly, caring, and loving families. Most of us had to seek Christ on our own, dedicated to Him.
We will never be able to follow Christ unless we have confessed our sinfulness and asked Him to change us into a new creation. Many people wanted to become Christian but were not willing to confess their sin to be cleansed of it. They want the perks of a Christian without the requirement to become born again.
Trusting in Christ, believing in Him changes us, but we do not change ourselves, He changes us when we believe in Him.
