Why do men adopt pagnaistic ways attempting to Christianize what God never commanded, while at the same time ignoring and even invalidating what God did command? In the process, man elevates and validates pagan practices as long as Christ's name is attached.
Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Man is stubborn, always thinking he knows better than God how things should be done.
Pentecostals have been notorious for pragmatism, thinking that as long as something works, it is alright to do as though God is pleased with man using his own idea, as long as he claims it is for God.
I am reminded of a time in raising children when I gave instructions on how I wanted something to be done in their chores. Rather than obeying me and my instructions, they decided to do things their own way, which didn't work out because of their lack of knowledge and wisdom, for lack of experience. But in their mind, they knew better about something they had little information or training about.
Why does mankind always think it knows better than God? A wise man knows that God is so far above our level of thinking that we cannot possibly rise to His level. But nevertheless, mankind always thinks it can help God by doing things its own way. As long as they believe they have a good reason, they will defy God and claim they are on His side.
We see this all the time when "Christians" become angry when they are corrected with Scripture. All we have to do is decline to follow their way, and it is seen as rebellion. It is not rebellion against God, only boundaries for their false religion.
Modern American cultural Christianity does not tolerate sound doctrine; it is invested in its own form of religion that allows each one to devise their own ideas without challenge.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 "…2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. 3 For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4 So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."
