If we need human heroes, then we are indulging in idol worship. Our god is a jealous God and does not want us to elevate anyone above Him. No man can measure up to God and no man can do "heroic" things without God's permission and even help.
1 Peter 4:11 "Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
Exodus 20:5 "You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,"
