The modern lie that we should forgive someone who is not sorry for our own sake is not Biblical and only brings about superficial acquaintances that have no depth based on nothing good and lasting.
Confession of offense and forgiveness of that offense are two sides of the same coin to reconcile a relationship. If one of those things is missing then the relationship remains broken, If there is no apology and no access then there has not been forgiveness. Just saying; "I forgive" does nothing, it is empty words that fall to the ground without meaning. We never forgive for our own feelings of superiority, we forgive when there is a confession of offense to remove the debt of offense and resume the relationship.
