In a comment to another post about the narcissistic next generation, I gave this response.
"I have been recently speaking to the Lord about this very thing. I pondered how would someone explain to someone what love looks like when they have never seen it. They have been taught that love is giving someone whatever they want. Then the Lord spoke to me, practically shouting in my mind, "no one can explain it to them, they have to be changed into a new creation by Christ to be able to understand."
Our children's generation has been continually bombarded with "self, self, self", from morning til evening every day to such a degree, that even those who think they are selfless from time to time are still doing their good deeds to be glorified themselves.
The reason I believe this is that, when they are confronted with a wrong attitude or selfish action, their first response is to argue and fight to justify or explain away what has been evident to the discerning eye. And, there is anger, snootiness and rejection that comes after such an encounter.
Those of our children's generation refuse to be corrected, a trait that kills a culture and a nation.
Proverbs 8:13 ""The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate."
Proverbs 28:1 "The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion."
Philippians 2:3-11 "Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men."
A loving humble person who is confronted with a wrong attitude will act ashamed and repentant, desiring to make things right and begin again, afresh. No child of God is angry when God shows them their sin, they are full of sorrow that they have offended God and their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Anger and rebellion is the first clue that someone is either not born again, or they are baby believers who have not yet learned God's kind of humility.
James 4:6 "But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
We must pray for this self indulged generation. Each new bad, is more intense with the next generation. I see now even greater rebellion, self indulgence and pride in our grandchildren's generation. The 2 Timothy 3 passages proclaiming the status of the end times, is coming to pass before our eyes.
Our only hope is to pray and see God perform a miracle in the hearts of these wayward and pampered slaves of egotism.
