It always amazes me when Christians say we should just leave conviction to the Holy Spirit instead of telling people their sinfulness. They don't seem to realize that the Holy Spirit speaks through us. We are His hands, feet and mouth piece. I am quite sure than many Christians have never sensed the promptings of the Holy Spirit speak to them because they never consult Him about anything.
When we have heard from Him there is no mistaking His voice. He speaks in quiet but strong promptings deep in our soul. Its not a feeling, fear or audible voice, but clearly it is Him.
Those who hear from the Holy Spirit know when it is him speaking or just their flesh, there is a distinct difference that is unmistakable.
John 3:5-6
"5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
Titus 3:6
"6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,"
Acts 2:38
"38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
The Holy Spirit was given to us as a seal of our salvation as well as our counselor, protector, teacher, comforter and much more.
John 14:26
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."
1 Corinthians 2:9-13
"But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual."
John 16:13
"When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come."
John 14:17
"Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you."
Ephesians 4:30
"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."
Ephesians 1:12-14
"…12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory. 13 And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth— the gospel of your salvation— you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory.…"
The Holy Spirit is not an idea, a thought or anything intangible, He is a person sent by God to dwell in believers as everything that is needed to live the Christian life as well as our guarantee of salvation, our inheritance.
He corrects us when we sin to bring us back to obedience.
John 16:8
“When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment”
John 16:14
“He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you”
