The Lord can heal anything, even if the "feelings" well up in us automatically at times they have no control over us.
I remember one day walking on the boardwalk of a small coastal town looking in the windows of the shops. When I came to one window I saw a vase exactly like the one my mother used to have, suddenly without any thinking the feelings of sadness and depression came over me instantaneously. As I stood there looking at the vase I realized the feelings of childhood came back merely from the encounter with that vase, nothing else was happening and I was not even remembering bad things.
I quickly said, "wow, that's strange", and dismissed the feelings as stimuli from childhood even without memories. It only took a few minutes for the feelings to leave me but I had to consciously remind myself they were just feelings and nothing more.
I remember too a story of a person who was having brain surgery while awake. The surgeon would touch one part of the brain with his probe and the person on the table would experience something from a memory of the past. In other words, if the surgeon touched a part of the brain that had the memory of eating an ice cream cone, the person feeling it would taste ice cream as though it were happening in real-time.
I think we have no idea how many memories and sensations remain in the brain all our lives and can be called up with the right stimuli. I also believe this is why the devil can use forgotten memories to cause negative feelings in us.
Satan can mess with our brains without us realizing it. He can make us believe things that are not true just as he did in the garden with Eve. He was able to cause her to believe God had not been honest with her and that He could not be trusted.
The devil can bring up memories from the past to unsettle us, causing sadness when there is no reason for us to be sad. He uses the antics of others to plant memories in our brains that remain there the entire rest of our lives. Mankind fell into sin because of one lie he caused Eve to believe.
How many more lies is he planting in the minds of people in these days of apostasy? I suggest that he is continually causing division through feelings of discord.
If we are wise we ignore our feelings and think rationally according to the Bible, when we do this we will not be fooled by these false feelings, we will be strong and resist acting according to how we feel in the moment.
Do not follow your own heart or your feelings!!!! Rather, follow the Bible, searching it for the truth to know what to do and how to perceive things with the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:15-16 "The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. 16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ."
