What We Do in His Name

John 14:12-14
"12 Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Christ said that we would do greater works than He did. He rose the dead, healed the sick, and fed the five thousand, what could be greater than these things?

The greater thing is to bring the gospel to the lost. If someone becomes born again they will live forever when their body dies. It is greater than being risen from the dead only to die again. It is greater than healing on this earth, it is an eternity with Christ in paradise never to be sick again. The greater work is the gospel.

We will be given what we ask when it aligns with God's Will. So many take this passage out of context to treat God like a cosmic genie whom we demand things from and He has to give it. This is not the case at all, God will give us what we ask when it is according to His will and the scriptures.

However, if we beg God long enough for the wrong thing out of our willfulness He will give it and then go silent to fend for ourselves in the consequences of our choice.

John 14:12 "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."

May our focus be entirely on the things of God which will bring a totally different perspective than those who are perishing.
