God disciplines those who belong to Him. Since no one came to Christ because of their good deeds, they will not remain Christian because of their good deeds.
When we come to Christ we come with nothing to offer, we don't get something to offer because Christ has saved us. We are born again because we confessed our sinfulness and Christ came to live in us.
We are not sinless but we sin less because God is always working on us.
Ephesians 2:10
"10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."
"10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."
Hebrews 12:5-7 "…5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, or lose heart when He rebukes you. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises everyone He receives as a son.” 7 Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?…"
John 15:3-5 "…3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. 5I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.…"
All those who are born again remain in Christ. Those who do not remain were never born again. They were the pretenders spoken of in Matthew 7:21-23
Matthew 7:21-23 )
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many [a]miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’"
Notice in the passage in Matthew that those who will be turned away thinking they have made it to heaven will have done miracles in Christ's name. They will even be seen by others as super godly people. But they never trusted in Christ, they trusted in their own goodness.
Christ's blood cleanses and covers our sinfulness. Over time we are cleansed as we confess while all our sin continues to be covered in the blood.
We are cleansed in direct proportions to how often we confess. 1 John 1:9. We are only cleansed from those sins that we confess. As long as one will not confess they remain with that sin that will testify against them at the judgement of the righteous, who will be judged according to their reward, not based on their sin.
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Most Christians today believe God will forgive even if there is no confession of sin. This is unbiblical and has led many people into error about salvation and the security of that salvation. It has also led people into error concerning human relationships. One cannot build a relationship with Christ when we will not have the sorrow necessary for repentance. One cannot rebuild a relationship with people based on "just letting it all go." We must be as God has commanded, we must operate the way He operates. He forgives when we repent, and we must forgive when there is repentance.
God does not throw away those He has sealed:
Ephesians 1:12-14 "…12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory. 13 And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth— the gospel of your salvation— you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory."
1 Corinthians 3:14-16 "…14 If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames. 16Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?…"
All we do is believe and trust Christ and He does all the rest of the work.
Ephesians 2:10
"10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."
