Sandra Grant's TESTIMONY
What do I mean by that?
I have been married only once.
My marriage was a first for both myself and my husband. When my husband divorced me, I said I can remarry because this is the teaching we hear in churches. However, the Lord stopped me in my tracks that very night and brought me to the scriptures in Romans 7:1-3.
Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man
Romans 7:1-3
You see many who stand in pulpits and preach do not agree with the Lord concerning marriage.
God has called me in this hour to be a witness to my generation concerning covenant marriage.
A marriage is a covenant not a contract. Not everyone is eligible for marriage either. In my case I'm not eligible because Christ's command to the married if divorced is to remain unmarried or be reconciled if it becomes possible.
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
But if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 7:10-11,39
I am a woman of virtue. I know that my sexual purity matters to God so I will not disobey Him by marrying another while my first husband lives and legalizing myself in a marriage Jesus calls adultery.
Those who profess to be in the faith and living in this union Jesus calls adultery have been deceived by the lust of their flesh and don't realize that staying in the unlawful union is a matter of salvation for them. This is a hard pill to swallow but it's the unadulterated truth of the scriptures.
Every early church father, without exception, taught a
marriage lasts until death.
Hermas (A.D. 90) If a husband divorces his wife
because she is adulterous, he must not “marry” a
second wife.
Justin Martyr (A.D. 151) Whoever marries a divorced
person commits Adultery. Those in an adulterous
marriage are sinning against God.
Clement of Alexandria (A.D. 208) A second
“marriage” while a former spouse is alive, is living in
a state of Adultery, which is expressly forbidden in
Scripture.
Origen (A.D. 248) A second “marriage” is not an
actual marriage, but disguised Adultery.
Basil the Great (A.D. 375) An adulterous relationship
is continuous Adultery, not a one-time sin.
Ambrose of Milan (A.D. 387) It is forbidden by God
for a spouse to divorce and marry another.
Jerome (A.D. 396) A marriage is for life, and no matter
what a spouse turns out to be, the covenant remains in
effect. God does not divide a one-flesh relationship.
Augustine (A.D. 419) It never has been lawful, and it
never will be, to divorce and marry another.
I am not ashamed of the true gospel of Jesus Christ neither am I ashamed to declare God's truth on covenant marriage.
I boldly defend my stand for sexual purity as I represent my Lord.
Jesus did say that we must count the cost for following Him and if we love HIM we must keep His commandments .
Here is where many have misinterpreted the scriptures. They have taken one phrase in the scriptures out of context and led many astray.
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Matthew 19:9
When in doubt always let scripture interpret scripture.
I have already shown that when two get married only the death of a spouse can end that marriage.
The scriptures give an example of "divorce for fornication" which many ignore or choose to be blind to in the midst of all the messy relationships that many are in.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 1:18-20
You see the Jews have what is called a betrothal/ engagement period. This period lasts for a year. The engaged couple is referred to as husband and wife. During the betrothal, the husband stays away from the wife for the year and makes preparation to receive her.
As in the case of Mary and Joseph, it was during the engagement period, that Mary became pregnant. The only way to end a Jewish betrothal was to divorce for fornication. That is what Joseph was going to do as He thought she had slept with another man while they were engaged. However he was told not to because her pregnancy was by the HOLY GHOST.
Only during an engagement can a man put away his esposed wife.
After marriage, they are one flesh and only the death of one of the spouse ends that marriage.
May God's truth on covenant marriage take root in your hearts and bring forth good fruit.❤👣🌎 Written by Sandra Grant
