Those who are overly concerned about impressing people to the point of allowing them to walk all over them are just as much self focused as the narcissist.
The narcissist is selfish in desiring to be superior to others.
The empathic person often allows others to walk on them because of their fear of rejection.
Both people are self focused. When we are Christ focused we can do what is right without concern about how others will think of us. We also have no desire to be superior to others.
When Christ is our focus we can walk confidently in obedience to Him without a sense of having to please anyone. If God wants us to please someone, that is far different from our own fear of man's rejection.
We ought to want to serve others, but only if it is God's will. Often we serve others so they will like us as in the empaths case, or so they will see us as superior as in the case of the narcissist.
God's way of Christ-focus is the most freeing and the most satisfying. In order to do this we must make Him our guide, our confidant and our pleasure.
Matthew 6:33-34
"33 But [a]seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
When we are seeking God we will never worry about what others think of us or how they will treat us!
Romans 5:10
"10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life."
