I see a spirit of religiosity in most people who claim to be strong Christians today. There is a spirit of superiority in those who think they are doing everything right. Even though their attitude of superiority is sin, they think they are acting righteously by virtue of the rules that they follow.
Those who make rules based on how they wish to see life, with themselves as elevated above others, will always make false judgments.
Every judgment they make and every thing they see us do will be evaluated in terms of their own rules. When we do not follow their rules they treat us contemptuously even glorying in that contempt as though justified.
1 Peter 3:16
"Having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame."
There is shame in the heart of those who make their own rules and torment others who do not follow them. The rules are designed to make them "feel" more righteous than they are in reality. Their rules cover up their sinful heart of pride.
When we follow Christ we can be honest about who we are and Who Christ is. When we compare ourselves with those around us we can become prideful. But when we compare ourselves to God there is no reason for a sense of superiority.
Romans 3:23
"23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
2 Corinthians 10:12 "For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding."
Those who love to feel superior know they are not, the very reason for the harsh rules and attitude that refuses to understand others or even God. Stay away from these people, they will influence to do things their way instead of God's way. And, even worse they will seek to make us like them.
Do we want to be like Christ or another human being who thinks they are superior?
