It is important to understand "forgiveness" correctly, marriage correctly, and salvation correctly!!!!
Today's understanding of many things are false and must be corrected. Few will listen because most people want their cultural Christianity based on their modern western thinking, they are not very interested in God's meaning in what He said.
Jesus Christ had to die a brutal death spilling all His blood for mankind in order to pay our debt of sin. Had He not done this we would have had to die for our own sin and even then it would not be counted because sinful flesh cannot pay a debt for sin. It had to be the death of the Perfect Son of God to pay for sin. Without the brutal death of Christ, we would still be responsible and we would all go to hell.
Since we know this how utterly ridiculous to think that sin doesn't matter anymore. Just the opposite is true, since sin cost our Lord so much, a bloody death on a brutal cross, ought to motivate us to avoid sin, to obey His Word, to continually seek Him to please Him.
We live in a cultural Christianity that spends more time twisting scripture to find ways to justify sin, even embrace it than we do in finding ways to avoid it.
I have heard people say sin doesn't matter anymore because we are under grace. These people don't know what grace is. Grace has been given to forgive our sins and to go forward to avoid sin.
Romans 6:14-16 "14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. 15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that when you offer yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?…"
Since God hates sin enough to die for us a brutal death, then we ought to hate sin too. How could anyone who loves the Lord realize what He did for us and still defend sin? It's insanity to believe sin is alright with God when it took a brutal bloody death to pay for it.
It seems to me a person who has been changed by Christ while realizing what He did for us would be completely dedicated to removing all sin from their lives. Because we hate sin as God hated it we pray regularly to be cleansed from even the smallest bad attitude. It is the attitude that leads to sin, that must be changed by Christ, we must want Him to change us so that we can love Him His way, through obedience to Him out of dedication to Him.
Ephesians 2:9-10 "…9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life."
Those who defend sin and refuse to seek His Word for their instructions about their life cannot be born again, because it is He, Jesus Christ Who places the desire to love Him and His word in our hearts. It is He Who paid the cost of sin for us.
Ephesians 3:17
"17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,"
One cannot be rooted and grounded in love if they don't care if they are pleasing Christ.
Those who have never been broken over their own sinfulness will never care about sin in themselves or in others in the body. Those who have been broken over their own sinfulness and changed by Christ will understand how bad sin is and what it produces, not only consequences in life but death.
