Have you wondered why some people seem to get worse over time rather than better? Those who display a pseudo-Christianity, seem forced in their responses to things but there is a sense of uneasiness around them, these are people who very likely decided to be Christians, sort of like joining a social club, but because their heart was never broken over their sinfulness, they don't seem to continue in holiness, in fact they regress with time.
There are many pretenders that are narcissists, they show us a phony persona that is not a part of who they really are, a sort of acting to fit in, but it can't last because they were never changed into a new creation by Christ, they never wanted to be cleansed, never confessed their sinfulness, but worked in the flesh to appear good. We see this all the time, they have not lost their salvation, they just never had it to begin with. Matthew 7:21-23
"21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’"
