There are times when I wake up in the middle of the night feeling a slight panic attack. I have a thyroid condition that acts up occasionally, it's physical, out of my control and nothing can be done to stop it. The feeling of doom is present for only a couple of minutes, sometimes even just seconds.
During that minor but real attack I say to myself that it will pass in a couple of minutes and then I lay quietly until it is gone.
This is how it feels sometimes when we are under attack of the enemy through the unkind actions and reactions of others. If we could just remind ourselves this is a temporary situation, that it won't last and there is nothing I can do to change it, then we can remain silent while it passes.
When dealing now in a world full of hatred and rebellion we are going to have to let those with tantrums have them without our help or even our acknowledgment. The only thing that works for a tantrumming child is to spank them. But we can't spank the childish adult, so we must tell the truth, ignore their reactions and remove ourselves if they fight back.
Get used to it folks, things are ramping up for the whole world to be enveloped all the time in total nonsense and irrational behavior.
Let's not let them make us one of them by responding in kind. May the Lord keep us steady and even through it all, no matter what.
When we feel a need to respond it is often out of pride that we just must have our say, but if we remember that God can do a better job, we can leave it to Him, maintain our dignity and joy. There is no better witness than trusting Christ through everything.
Defending ourselves is often a knee jerk reaction and a futile attempt to be heard. We don't have to be heard, we can let God be heard.
Isaiah 41:10
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
