I really hate it when someone treats me disrespectfully all the time and then brings me a gift on my birthday.
I don't care anything about my birthday, I would rather be treated with respect and love without a birthday gift.
God has shown me how He must feel when we "do things for Him" with our own desire to be elevated, and ignore His truths and principles in His Word.
11 “What are your many sacrifices to Me?”
Says the Lord.
“I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fattened cattle;
And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats.
12 When you come to appear before Me,
Who requires of you this trampling of My courtyards?
13 Do not go on bringing your worthless offerings,
Incense is an abomination to Me.
New moon and Sabbath, the proclamation of an assembly—
I cannot endure wrongdoing and the festive assembly.
14 I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me;
I am tired of bearing them.
15 So when you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you offer many prayers,
I will not be listening.
Your hands are covered with blood.
16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
Stop doing evil,
17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Rebuke the oppressor,
Obtain justice for the orphan,
Plead for the widow’s case."
When the holidays roll around as they do every year Christians will have pagan symbols in their house alongside symbols they think are of Christianity. They will mix God with paganism and claim it was for God.
The truth of these false displays of love is that they are entirely based on the desire to love something God hates but claim it was for Him.
Psalm 40:6
"Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but my ears You have opened. Burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not require."
Proverbs 15:8
"The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight."
Proverbs 21:3
"To do righteousness and justice is more desirable to the LORD than sacrifice."
Those who love the Lord with all their heart can recognize a gift for what it is not by the gift itself but by the behavior toward them all the rest of the year.
