Saying we are Christians is far different from being changed into a New Creation by Christ.
We do not say we are something to make it so!
There are those who are afraid to say to believers that we sin. They are worried that if we tell this truth, there will be those who will run into sin thinking they are alright. The problem with this thinking is that they are not trusting Christ to know who is who.
We do not run into sin just because we know we have an advocate with the Father. As believers we hate the sin we used to love and love the righteousness we used to hate. We have been changed, we are not looking for an opportunity to sin, we are desiring opportunities to be righteous.
Anyone who rushes to sin for any excuse and loves their sin, has never been born again. Those who love Christ hate their sin, they are deeply grieved when they have offended their God. Christ in them plagues them until they repent.
Believers do sin and sometimes in big ways, but they do not stay there, eventually they are in so much turmoil through the conviction of the Holy Spirit that they come back to confess and forsake.
1 John 5:18-21 (NKJV)
"18 We know that whoever is born of God does not (continue in)sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." I added the phrase "continue in" because that is the meaning in the original language."
1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:" This verse was written to believers."
1 Corinthians 3:15 "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."
It is up to us as brothers and sisters to warn believers of the consequences in this life and lost rewards in the next for sin. Those who sin willfully without conscience have never been born again.
Matthew 7:21-23
New King James Version (NKJV)
I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"
There will be many who get before Christ on judgement day, who were pretenders, they claimed to be His, but they never had a desire to be changed into a new creation, they only wanted the perks that God had to offer, but they did not want Him.
