The 2 Timothy 3 crowd can
ruin relationships! I have lost several to narcs who lie and are very charming
on the surface, but devious and mean covertly.
No one believes what they
do to others unless it is done personally to them. If we are to describe the
tactics we sound petty, but when you add them all up they become mountainous,
even overwhelming if we don't know what we are dealing with.
Satan is like that, he
comes as an angel of light, pretending to be wonderful and perfect, only to
covertly destroy whatever he can any way he can.
If the devil cannot suck us in, through lies and deception, he will come against us by using our friends and family. Never fear, though, he did this to the apostles and Christ Himself.
The Pharisees accused
Christ of doing miracles by the power of the devil, when they were controlled
by the devil themselves. The narcissist will mock at your good deeds acting as
though you did something wrong, to negate goodness.
When we encounter it we
are free to move on to more healthy relationships based on mutual love,
understanding and Christ dwelling in us.
Those who love the Lord do
not use tactics of the devil, this is one of our clues of healthy
relationships. Those who possess God's love, care deeply about the welfare of
one another, competition with one another isn't even a thought in their minds.
Empathy is a continual
characteristic of the born again believer, they care more about honoring God
than anything else. His principles mean a great deal to the one who follows
Christ. They actually feel the pain of another human being. They also have joy
at someone else's blessing.
If there is any test as to
a friendship, it might be to watch how someone responds automatically to the
needs of others. When they encounter someone in need on the street do they pass
them by or do they jump in to help without even thinking about it?
When the Holy Spirit is
working in us we don't have to ponder what is needed, nor are we concerned about
impressing anyone, it will be an automatic response without having to think
what to do and it won't matter if anyone sees it or praises us.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all
things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never
ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease;
as for knowledge, it will pass away."
Romans 8:37-39 "No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I
am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present
nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord."
Galatians 2:20 "I
have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who
lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
1 John 3:1 "See what
kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of
God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did
not know him."
Galatians 5:13 "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
Ephesians 4:2 "with
all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in
love,"
1 Peter 1:22 "Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,"
1 John 4:7 "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."
