Pride Produces Shame

Proverbs 10:23
"It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom."

The 2 Timothy 3:1-5 type person loves drama that place them at the center of attention, as well as elevated above others. They love creating this drama, it is pleasurable to them.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these."

These people bully, manipulate using guilt and shame against those they are jealous of, angry at or desire to feel superior to.

The self absorbed individuals hate manners, they teach them to their children but use them little themselves. Their children must learn manners to make the narcissist look good, but the narc doesn't enjoy using them himself.

Those of the 2 Timohty 3 type cannot stand the joys and victories of others and must demean them to remain elevated in their own eyes.  If a target of the narcissist does something kind or good, the narcissist must say or do something to destroy the good works of the target, through mocking or demeaning.

Narcissists hate any form of instruction or correction, they must be superior at all times, frequently passing out instruction but never accepting if for themselves from others. It is devastating to their soul to be told there is need for work in them.

Normal people with a healthy view of life receive as well as give instruction and correction without any sense of shame, but the narcissists, rages against these things because the slightest hint that they are not perfect causes a deep sense of shame.

Pride produces shame, it allows us to believe that unless we are perfect then we must be nothing.  This same pride produces irrationality in the soul, in relationships.  Things that most people would shrug off or ponder for growth, even embracing with gratefulness to be shown a better way, are deeply wounding to the narcissist.

Proverbs 10:18 "18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips,
And he who spreads slander is a fool."

Eccl. 2:14 "14 The wise man’s eyes are in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I know that one fate befalls them both."

Proverbs 28:26 "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."

Prov. 14:3 "In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them."

Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."

Proverbs 15:5 "A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent."

Proverbs 23:9 "Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words."

Proverbs 20:3 Keeping away from strife is an honor for a man,
But any fool will quarrel."

Eccl. 7:9 "Do not be eager in your heart to be angry,
For anger resides in the bosom of fools."
