Have you ever wondered how the American "church" got to be as apostate as it has? I didn't learn what true Christianity was until I became born again after I left my parents home. Sadly, we were in church every week but absent from our home was the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23
"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
When I was growing up I heard often, "What are you going to be when you grow up." The most important issue with our parents generation was having a good job and making lots of money.
We went to church every week, but almost nothing was said about God from the lips of our parents, however, they had lots to say about morality and finances. Nothing was about pleasing Christ, it was about acting decently and making money.
When I became radically Christian after becoming born again, I was spurned even by the believers, because I came against the very things they thought were good but were patently unBiblical.
We were raised on more tradition than truth, little that I was taught was pleasing to Christ, it was a social gospel of decency but absent from that was any teaching about seeking the Holy Spirit for wisdom or searching the Bible for truth. All truth that was taught was based on cultural standards, not God's. When the culture changed, so did the standards of the believers.
They followed the culture instead of Christ. This is the state of the modern church, appearances take priority over everything.
John 14:6 "6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
