Knowing the tactics of the enemy of our soul (Satan) will allow us to refrain from taking any of it personally. What we do not take personally we do not react to, that's the rule.
Our response or reaction to the attacks of Satan says something about us. Either we have learned to remain trusting Christ or we are still living in our emotional space that trips us up.
We can ignore an insult, remove ourselves when we see a fight is brewing or we can respond to explain and defend which is only food for those who love to feel superior.
Proverbs 12:15-17 "…15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to counsel. 16 A fool’s anger is known at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. 17 He who speaks the truth declares what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit."
