When we are raised in narcissism, when parents, and siblings, and their spouses act in mean ways continually, it takes the wisdom of God to see it is not good or normal.
When we are accustomed to seeing this snarky behavior as children we think there is something wrong with us when we resist being the way they are, they will punish us for speaking the truth against it.
Narcissists see correction as a personal attack rather than evaluating themselves to see if they need to change.
Proverbs 12:15-16 "15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to counsel. 16 A fool’s anger is known at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.…"
Proverbs 14:12
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
The narcissist hates that we have moved on to better things and kinder people, they want us to be just like them. God made it clear that our constant companions will shape the way we think and ultimately the way we act.
1 Corinthians 15:33-34 "33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 34 Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.…"
Proverbs 19:20
"Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days."
When we are determined to obey Christ we will be under attack by narcissists who want to believe we are worthless. They will twist in the wind at our Spiritual and emotional growth, it is frustrating to them. If they don't know anything about us they will develop in their own minds how they wish to think about us, all negative, and pass it on to others to gain supporters for their hate against us.
Praise the Lord that we are commanded by Him to leave the presence of those who wish to keep you in bondage to the past you left behind. They want to believe you have the character they have chosen to believe about us.
Proverbs 29:27
"An unjust man is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked."
Isaiah 66:5
"You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the LORD: "Your brothers who hate you and exclude you because of My name have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified that we may see your joy!' But they will be put to shame."
Be blessed in knowing that God allows and even commands us to choose our companions well, those who love Him, those who are full of the fruit of His Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23
"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
This fruit can be seen by discerning born again believers, you will be able to discern who has the fruit and who does not. God knows the heart and He lives in us.
