When the Holy Spirit leads us to speak about the Lord we must obey. Remember if we don't obey God will send someone else.
There is a rumor traveling through the Christian church that people might not be saved if we don't tell them about Christ.
Thankfully my salvation did not depend on a particular person telling me about Christ. God will always send someone to tell others about Christ, those who will not do it will miss rewards but my salvation does not depend on them.
"6 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah."
Those who have been led to give the gospel to someone and don't will lose rewards and the ones who obey God and speak of the Lord will have rewards, but that person we speak to or don't speak to will be given the gospel one way or another. No one goes to hell because of someone else's neglect.
I don't know where this misunderstanding comes from; "that if we don't give someone the gospel they might go to hell because of us. That would presume if you do tell the gospel to someone and they trust in Christ, it was because of you that they were going to heaven. NO!, we are merely lowly messengers, no one goes to heaven because of us, if they go, they go because they have heard the gospel and received it while trusting in Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:3-5 "…3 for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man? 4 For when one of you says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere men? 5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, as the Lord has assigned to each his role.…"
We ought not to be grateful to men for our salvation, we ought to be grateful to Christ Who lives in us. Christ is the One Who motivated the servants of God to obey Him.
When we have trusted Christ then we speak the truth of Christ to others just as those people did to us when we were lost. We are all the same, all servants, Christ is the increase.
1 Corinthians 3:6-8
"6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. 7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. 8 Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor."
Because of our obedience, Christ gets the glory, not ourselves.
John 11:40
"Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
May the messenger always be hidden behind the Lord Jesus Christ. If no one remembers my name after telling them of Christ I am happy with that as long as they remember Christ.
