If you confront someone about their action toward you and they say, "if I did anything wrong I am sorry", then you know they are not sorry because they don't believe they did anything or they wouldn't say "if."
When we are guilty and we know it, we say, "I am sorry I did that to you." Not, "I am sorry you were offended, that is another way of placing the blame on us for being offended.
If someone is truly sorry, they feel bad, they express exactly what they did and ask forgiveness.
James 5:16 "16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail. "
We know a righteous man can sin by these passages. Righteous men are the ones who confess. Unrighteous men do not confess, they excuse themselves or deny their guilt.
