Lying Destroys While Truth Builds

In this day that we are living in, lying has become completely acceptable except in court. Many people lie regularly and think nothing of it. As long as we believe that lying brings about something that is good or that we want, we feel justified.

Lying can become an uncontrollable addiction if one does not realize how much they are doing it and confess it to God to be cleansed. If we find ourselves in an addiction to lying, the best thing to do is to pray for cleansing and even confess to a trusted friend that we have had a problem with it, accountability is a wonderful motivator in ending a sinful addiction.

The devil was thrown out of heaven because of lies about himself. He used lying in the garden to deceive and corrupt mankind. Satan is called the father of lies, everything he does, says and is, is demonstrated in lies.

Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."

Proverbs 19:9 "A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish."

Proverbs 12:22 "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight."

Psalm 101:7 "No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes."

Colossians 3:9-10 "Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator."

Luke 8:17 "For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light."

When we lie, we must believe that no one knows or can see it. God sees everything, there is no hiding anything from God.

2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars."

The value of a clear and pure conscience is far more desirable than what we think we gain by lying.
