When Our Friends and Family Become Our Enemies

I'll bet that when you became a Christian, Christ cleaned up your life and you were on fire for the Lord, questioning all things to make sure you knew God's principles to obey them. Suddenly all those Christian friends and family members began to fall away from you.

They got angry when they were challenged in the most mild terms to question their unBiblical stance on something, they avoided you at gatherings and even gossiped about you, saying things that were not true. When you found out about the gossip, they refused to engage with you, making you out to be a trouble maker for wanting to clear it all up through honest discussion.

When you became born again, those you thought would be excited and come along side you, suddenly became your enemies. You were perplexed, so much so that you spent time in prayer to discover why this is happening, even perhaps feeling guilt about the life you had before you were forgiven by Christ. Which I might add, was the goal of the self righteous.

The devil loves to use "Christians" to beat up on one another when our life has been cleansed. Guess what!!! Those same people who didn't like you while you were a sinner, despise you even more as a believer, because in so many cases these self righteous types hated it when you found Christ, they loved that you were beneath them before, how dare you be equal to them now.

But we are not equal to them! They spent their years elevating self so much so that they have not grown an inkling in all those years. But we have grown, our eyes have been opened to see the phoniness of the walk of the self righteous.

These people can not tolerate our growth, our love for Christ and our pure joy at His dwelling in us.

The clue: When we walk with Christ we are excited at the changed life of another person who was once lost and now is found. We even want to be their friend!
