1. “You shall have no other gods before me."
2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3. “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain."
Taking the Lord's name in vain is more than just cussing, it's pretending to be a Christians but acting like a heathen.
4. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
The fourth commandment was fulfilled in Christ, as He is the Sabbath rest living in us. We no longer have a particular day as the Jews did under the dispensation of the Law. Now as born again believers the Law lives in us He is Christ.
The first four commandments pertain to God, our direction to love Him above everyone and everything else is the essence of our Christianity.
The next commandments pertain to mankind and their responsibility to one another.
5. “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
Christ said if you break one of them you have broken them all because they are based on the heart. If we hate our brother we have murdered.
If we have dishonored our parents in our lifestyle or openly treating them disrespectfully we have dishonored the Law of God.
Born again believers who follow the first commandment to love God will all our hearts, will cause us to love our fellow man God's way.
Jesus Christ summed up for us what the two greatest commandments were, it is simple. If we love Christ we will love others because we will love with the love of Christ in us.
Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the great and foremost commandment.
39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Sometimes as born again, believers, we mess up because our flesh is weak but our Spirit is willing to do what is right. When we mess up we hate it, we confess it openly and carry on to do what is right once again.
Those who mess up and use the excuse of "grace" to keep sinning are not only misunderstanding the grace of God but flagrantly defending sin.
Romans 6:1-2 "1What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?…"
All one has to do to find the truth is to actually want the truth, search the word while asking the Holy Spirit to guide them as they seek Him.
When someone flagrantly uses the word out of context to defend sin, they are under a curse.
Galatians 1:7-9 "…7 which is not even a gospel. Evidently, some people are troubling you and trying to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a divine curse! 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be under a curse!"
If someone comes against you for rebuking sin, they are the ones who are divisive, bringing a false gospel of sloppy grace that embraces sin and rejects holiness.
