What is an Idol?

What is an idol? Answer this question in all honesty and we are likely to make changes in our lives!

An idol is anything we love more, trust more, fear more and defend more than we do God.

Some idols can be material possessions, tv shows, famous people, famous leaders even church leaders.

Other idols may be friends or family members who do not love the Lord.

If we cannot walk away from things and people who detract us from our walk with Christ then we have idols.

1 Corinthians 10:13-15 "13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; you judge what I say."

1 John 5:19-21 "19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols."
