Confession of Sin is the Means to Progress in Holiness

1 John 1:9 tells believers that we are cleansed every time we confess our sin. We do not repent as we did to become born again, meaning turn around, we were turned around when we trusted Christ.
Often we use the word repent for believers when we really mean to confess. God promised when we admit our sin He will cleanse us. There is no cleansing and no Spiritual growth without confession of sin.
Many Christians remain spiritual and emotional infants because they will not admit when they have sinned against others. And, remember all sin, even sin of attitude or thoughts is against God before they ever become actions.
To grow in holiness we must confess our sin. Many of us confess our sinful thoughts before they become actions which is why we can live a life of growth demonstrating all the fruit of the Spirit.
We do not progress in holiness without confession of sin.
1 John 1:9
"9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Galatians 5:22-23
"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Romans 8:6
"For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."
