When a Church Attendee Mocks the Holy Spirit

I grieved and grieved and remained shocked when I admonished a "Christian" that we should be seeking the Holy Spirit and He repeated the title; "holy Spirit" and laughed at me, mocking that I would use the excuse that we should depend on the Holy Spirit, as though something was strange and foolish about that.
This was my first clue that this person who had been attending churches all his life didn't know what it was like to trust in the Holy Spirit and even saw it as a foolish thing.
Trusting Christ and relying on His Holy Spirit is basic Christianity. This same mocker proclaimed loudly that "someone is not a liar just because they tell one lie."
I explained to this long-time churchgoer that a person couldn't even tell one lie if they were not already a liar. We battle our flesh all the time because it is not holy, only Christ in us is holy and we must continually fight the battle of our flesh to walk uprightly.
It is not possible for a born-again believer who has the Holy Spirit living in him to mock the Holy Spirit.
We know that we fall into temptations at times as believers because God told us to "congress our sins to be cleansed of them. 1 John 1:9 "if you confess your sin He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." If we didn't have to battle sin anymore there would be no need to confess. And, He also said; "when you sin you have an advocate with the Father"
1 John 2:1, "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;"
If we sin God disciplines us Hebrews 12:5-7 "…5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises every son He receives.” 7 Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?…"
It does come automatically for a born-again believer to hate sin the very reason we do resist doing what our heart and the devil tempt us to do. The more we resist and confess when we fail the less we will live according to our flesh.
Galatians 5:17-25
"17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."
When we live by the Spirit of Christ Who dwells in us we will not carry out the fleshly temptations.
My prayer is that those who are pretenders would see that they are not saved and decide to repent and allow Christ to change them into a new creation.
