They Hate us because they Hate Christ

John 1:10-12 "…10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."

Matthew 10:21-22 "…21 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved."

In the same way the Lord Jesus Christ was rejected, those who love Him will also be rejected.

John 15:18-21 "If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first. If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well."

These passages should be a comfort to those who are born again, since Christ had to go through these things too. The response of Christ might surprise you.
Isaiah 53:7 "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth."

1 Peter 2:23 "When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly."

With His help, we can do the same thing He did, that is remain silent and innocent when people bully us. Our not retaliating is more important than having the last word; it keeps us from becoming like them.
