When the Holy Spirit Speaks

How do we know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us?

John 16:13-14 "13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you.…"

We know when it was the Holy Spirit working because He will glorify God, not a person.

They Hated Christ and Us Too

Amen, Amen!!!! This is why I am convinced that the end times are here. We are living as in the days of Noah when everyone does what is right in their own perverted human eyes and no one will listen to the truth.

THE RESULT HAS BEEN

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you!" John 15:18-19

"Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you!" 1 John 3:13

The professing Church has boasted that it would convert the world.

To accomplish this aim, it has sought to "popularize" religion.

Innumerable devices have been employed to attract the ungodly--many of which even a sense of propriety should have suppressed!

The result has been that the world has converted the professing Church!

But notwithstanding this, it still remains true that the world hates the true followers of the Lamb.

And nowhere is this more plainly evident, than in those who belong to what we may term the religious world!

If you resolve that by Divine grace you will live godly in Christ Jesus, then know that persecution must be your portion.

And that persecution will come upon you not from atheists and infidels, but from those bearing the name of Christians.

It will issue from those who still keep up a form (or semblance) of godliness, but who are strangers to its living power.

It will come to you from empty professors whose compromising ways are condemned by your refusal to conform thereto; whose worldliness and carnality is rebuked by your spirituality.

Remember, it was the religious leaders who hounded the Savior to His death!

"Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted!" 2 Timothy 3:12

God Resists the Proud

I believe the poor in spirit are blessed because it is only when we see ourselves as nothing that we can completely lean on Christ. He is everything and we are nothing. How could we ever compare ourselves to God, the One Who made us?

Matthew 5:2-4 "2 and He began to teach them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.…"

It is only through a crushed spirit over our sinfulness that God will change us into a new creation.

Those who think they are good and deserve salvation cannot be saved, God will not bother saving anyone who thinks they can know as much as God.

Those who are proud will not be broken over their sinfulness, in fact, they will flaunt themselves as deserving of salvation, an abomination to God.

Those who have been broken, crushed in the original language, over the realization that they are unworthy of God's love can repent becoming born-again.

No one can work hard enough to be good to deserve salvation. Working hard thinking they can do it is pride and worthy of hell.

Remember, God will not save someone who think they can get to heaven by their own efforts. These people are headed for hell until they become broken, contrite (meaning crushed), only then will God cleanse them from their sin and make them into a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17

"17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."

When this happens God begins His work in us, He gets all the glory all the time.

Ephesians 2:10

"10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Letting go of pride in self is the most blessed thing we can do, it is submitting to God so that He will change us. If we think we have changed ourselves then we will not be born again.

Don't miss this blessing by elevating yourself to the level of a god through self-exaltation, it only earns you hell.

Questions for the Confronting Person

Questions one might ask someone confronting us with our flaws: "thank you for bringing this to my attention, what specifically are you're referring to?" when they say you are this or you are that.

The next question to ask is "can you please give me specific things I did with details that made you upset with me?"

If someone really does want to work things out they will freely give details and explanations. However, if you have not done anything worthy of being called names or negative descriptions of your character, the accuser will always speak in generalities without specifics.

I have actually been confronted by one person who said I was a mean-spirited person, this was many years ago. When I asked them what specifically I did that was mean-spirited they replied with this; "I just can't talk to you."

When something like this happens you know you have not done anything that would be called "mean-spirited" but they want you to believe you are a bad person.

Honest people coming to us with legitimate grievances will tell the details, doing it in a loving way with a desire to reconcile the relationship. Unkind accusing people without legitimate grievances have only one goal, which is to demean and intimidate, it's about power over you, not a legitimate desire to resolve a problem.

When we meet with this form of accusation it might be wise to simply say; "when you are ready, to be honest, open, and detailed I would love to talk with you." Then let it go and move on. There is no value in mud-slinging without a desire to resolve a problem.

Sadly there are few people left in the world who care about others. The only goal of most people is to dominate, control be superior to anyone who will allow it.

God does not operate like this, He does not dominate or demean, He gives us choices and blesses us with wisdom when we honor Him enough to listen to Him and carry out His will.
