People in our day are the narcissists as described in 2 Timothy 3, they want everything but have nothing to give anyone else, they treat God the same way.
They are Johnny-on-the spot when they are in trouble, crying out to God to help them, but hate His principles.
Sadly, we live in a culture that wants God to act like a puppet, they pull the string when they need Him, but become enraged when His messengers bring them truth and correction.
Amos 5:10 "10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, And they abhor him who speaks with integrity. "
John 15:18-27
"18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you."
Non-believers hate believers, but they will be the ones the non-believer come to when they are in trouble. They know that believers have a special "IN" with God, and think we are obligated to help them out of their trouble.
Often the best help we have to offer the non-believer is to point them to Christ. Their troubles are small compared to the wrath of God at the end of their lives or during the tribulation, which by the way, is fast approaching.
There comes a point at which God is so angry at the rebellious heart, that He turns them over to their own devices and refuses to help them.
Proverbs 1:26-33
26 I will also laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your dread comes,
27 When your dread comes like a storm
And your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer;
They will seek me diligently but they will not find me,
29 Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the Lord.
30 “They would not accept my counsel,
They spurned all my reproof.
31 “So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way
And be satiated with their own devices.
32 “For the waywardness of the naive will kill them,
And the complacency of fools will destroy them.
33 “But he who listens to me shall live securely
And will be at ease from the dread of evil.”
