God commanded us to remove ourselves from anyone, even family members who claim to be Christian but refuse to hear a rebuke when they are in sin.
Romans 16:17
"Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them."
1 Timothy 6:20
"O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge"--
Titus 3:9
"But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless."
2 Timothy 2:19
"Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness."
Those who belong to God have an empathetic and loving spirit, not perfect but most of the time. When we see someone who claims to be a Christian and walks in a haughty and superior attitude every time you encounter them, you may be witnessing someone who is a pretender.
Loving, kind and godly people do not do mean things to manipulate those they wish to control.
The godly believer has no desire to control anyone, even themselves, they want the Holy Spirit to control their actions, reactions and responses.
the Lord desires that we have sweet fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ, nothing is done to elevate self.
Philippians 2:2-4 "…2 then make my joy complete by being of one mind, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.…"
When even our good deeds are done to impress or manipulate others, we are not walking in love and it is disobedience to God's Word.
Matthew 6:3-4 " 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.…"
Those who wish to control others must realize they are gaining nothing, in this life or the next. They will only serve to drive off those they wish to dominate, while being judged in eternity for their selfishness.
3 John 1:3-5 "…3 For I was overjoyed when the brothers came and testified about your devotion to the truth, in which you continue to walk. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 5 Beloved, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, and especially since they are strangers to you.…"
