There is some language in this that I would not use, but the description of a narcissist is exactly right! It is good to know the tactics of the narcissist so that we can avoid these people. They can continually cause unnecessary stress, they are a distraction to important things. When we are distracted through silly drama that is contrived to cause ill will, we will not be aware that we are being distracted from Christ and His principles. These people will keep us entangled in their nonsense so that we are not moving forward in our walk with Christ. The devil uses them to keep us on the edge all the time for no other reason than to destroy relationships and demean the work of God.
The seculars know how the narcissist is but they do not always have the answer or solution to it. God has the answer, that is 2 Timothy 3:1-5 "3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these."
The devil is using covert narcissism to distract believers while causing doubt in them. When the narcissist attacks in these covert ways you will become unsure if you should have done something God told you to do because of the negative or silent response of the narcissist. The devil wishes to silence us from speaking about Christ through manipulation and intimidation. The covert narcissist wrongly judges you over things that are not wrong, but they will make sure you believe you were wrong. We must depend on Christ for our standard and our actions. Satan is the father of lies, he accuses the brethren day and night of wrong doing when they are not doing wrong.
Friendships are built on mutual love. John 13:33-35 "…34 A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
The covert narcissist will never reveal their own flaws because they know how mean they would be when we reveal ours, so they think we will do the same to them.
A born again believer is transparent because truth is more important than an image they project.
James 5:16
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
The lack of empathy, love and transparency are the clues that we are engaged with a narcissist. They do not love the brethren, they do not love anyone. Conversely the born again believer loves and treats with respect all people, even those they disagree with. We need to know the character of those around us to be able to choose our friends wisely.
