Why do many people "go to church"? It's because they don't understand that when we are born again, we "are" the church.
Traditions have trained people to use "going to church" as a way of feeling safe, expecting blessings for doing so, and having someone to turn to when there was no one else, that is, God.
Sadly, their idea of God is someone who gives them their needs and desires while keeping them safe from life.
And, worse, many attend church gatherings to impress others, making their friends and family believe they are good people for following the rules and being decent to others.
None of these things should motivate us to attend gatherings.
Jesus Christ died a brutal death to pay the penalty for our sin, the death we deserved. He took it for us and promises to come and live in us when we trust in Him. He has promised to keep us from spiritual death and give us the strength to get through this life, which is full of difficulties and emotional traumas because of the fall of man thousands of years ago.
Not only does He promise to remain with us here, but He promises to take us to our heavenly home to be with Him when we leave this life. He decides when we leave and gives us the peace and joy until that happens.
Romans 6:23 "…22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 5:11-12 "And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life."
John 10:28 "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand."
Ephesians 3:11 "according to the eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord."
1 Peter 2:23-25 "…23 When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly. 24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. “By His stripes you are healed.” 25 For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.…"
Notice God says Christ is the overseer of our soul, not ourselves and not any other human being.
Hebrews 9:28 "so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him."
We were not able to pay our own debt for our own sin, only the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ, could do it.
Because of this, we owe Him everything; instead of using Him like a celestial sugar daddy with our hands continually out, we should be bowing before Him, asking Him to give us the power to carry out His will, and asking Him to transform us into His likeness.
Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God."
2 Corinthians 4:7-10
"7 But we have this treasure in earthen containers, so that the extraordinary greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;
8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing;
9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body."
Hallelujah!!!! Depending on Christ brings great joy and peace no matter what we must endure on this earth.
