Caring for Aging Parents

Follow the Link Below to the Article:

So many people approaching elderly status are experiencing this modern phenomenon of elder abandonment. The adult children of our day have been raised to love themselves above anyone else, they do not make themselves available to the needs of others not even their parents. Even many who claim to be Christian base their worship on their desires and emotions rather than on God's Word.

When someone is gone from us for that long and we know they don't want us, then we lose the desire to try and even the emotional connection to them.

This is a common story now among many of the older generation. We must depend on the Lord for our help and support more than ever before. Hallelujah we have Him.

My encouragement is to refuse to take it personally, we are living in the 2 Timothy 3 generation of nearly complete and total selfishness. These angry and entitled people if they read my post would not be ashamed, they would only be angry.

Jeremiah 6:14-16 "…14 They have dressed the wound of My people with very little care, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace at all. 15 Were they ashamed of the abomination they committed? No, they were not at all ashamed. They did not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I punish them, they will collapse,” says the LORD. 16 This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’…"

The generation of today does just enough to feel like they have done something to support their parents hoping it will not interfere with their own pleasures. Then there are those who do not want their parents but will want an inheritance at the end of the parents lives. They treat God the same way they treat their parents. These entitled people want God to protect them, keeping them safe and healthy while ignoring His commands and principles until they need something from Him.

Yes, it is true, adults treat one another the same way they treat God. They take what they can get, hope to be seen as special all the while ignoring Him in every way. They use His Word the Bible to cherry pick what they like while ignoring everything else in His Word.

Proverbs 30:14-16 "…14 there is a generation whose teeth are swords and whose jaws are knives, devouring the oppressed from the earth, and the needy from among men. 15 The leech has two daughters: Give and Give. There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, “Enough!”: 16 Sheol, the barren womb, land that is never satisfied with water, and fire that never says, “Enough!”"

We can love our children from afar through prayer, and when they show little to no interest in us we must carry on with our own lives. When we are in need we must depend on the Lord to care for us His way. God will not abandon His children!

Lastly, praise the Lord for those children who have seen the value of their parents and are resolved to attend to them in their old age. These are few and far between but they are out there and we must acknowledge them.

1 Timothy 5:4
"4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God."

1 Timothy 5:8
"8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

These Days there is Narcissism on Steroids!

A classic narcissistic tactic is to become angry when their evil is exposed, then proceed to call the whistle blower evil for exposing them.

We are seeing this in politics in a major way as well as family who have great contempt for those who tell the truth as described in the Bible.

Evil men cannot stand to see any good deed go unpunished. Since the evil man is fraught with hate and sin he cannot allow the good to flourish without exacting revenge in the form of character assassination.

When the narcissist cannot cause you to melt into a puddle on the floor in an emotional breakdown, they will enlist others to be against you too, when all their tactics don't work they run away and hide for failure to execute their plan or ruin.

Proverbs 10:9-11 "…9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. 10 He who winks the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will come to ruin. 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.…"

Obeying God

When your decision violates the Word of God then it was not coming from God. God does not violate His Own Word.

Hearing the Voice of God

The Holy Spirit warns us until we have read that part of the Bible that gives the answer.

Every time I was not sure I prayed, searched the Word and found the answer.

But the Holy Spirit made me uncomfortable before I even knew something was wrong.

That sense that something is just not right is what should prompt us to go to the Word and prayer for our answers.

Listen to that still small voice from God, you will know it when you hear it.

John 10:27 "27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

Those Who Love Their Sin are not Born Again

We are saved by grace and grace alone. We cannot lose our salvation because we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise as a Guarantee of our salvation.

Ephesians 1:12-14 "…12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory. 13 And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth— the gospel of your salvation— you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory.…"
However:................................

Grace is was not extended to be able to sin, it was extended to those who are repentant and want to be changed into a new creation by Christ Who gives us the power to stop sinning. Anyone who claims they can sin all they want have never been born again. Those who are born again hate sin as much as God does. They are miserable when they do it and confess quickly to be cleansed.

1 John 1:9 was written to believers.
Matthew 7:21-23 was written about non believers who think they are believers.

Hebrews 12:5-7 was written to believers:
"…5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not take lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastises everyone He receives as a son.” 7 Endure suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?…"

Romans 6:1-7 "6 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
7 for he who has died is freed from sin."

Boasting is not for God's People

People who boast about themselves are probably not what they think they are in reality. Those who are strong need not boast.

There is a difference in sharing a joy the Lord has brought and boasting about one's own accomplishments.

"A joy shared is twice a joy, A trial shared is half a trial."

Proverbs 17:22
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
"11 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing."

You know a true friend, they are someone who loves to rejoice with you and will weep with you when things are difficult. They will never judge your experiences as silly or unworthy of response.

A kind person loves to engage in your experiences with you. A narcissist is a person who loves to see you fail, even claiming you failed when you did not.  Remember who is whom and choose your friends wisely.

Those who wish to dominate you are not your friends. True friends will tell the truth all the time but will not gain pleasure in competitiveness with you. True friends receive a correction as a chance to evaluate themselves, they do not fight, argue or punish those who love them enough to tell the truth.

2 Corinthians 10:12-13 "12We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they show their ignorance. 13We, however, will not boast beyond our limits, but only within the field of influence that God has assigned to us—a field that reaches even to you.…"
