Narcissists are always making up stories, their whole existence is storytelling without facts or truth. They spin a yarn because they are storytellers all the time.
Nothing is real to them, they live by feelings and embellish things that enhance their stories. There is no sense of reality so they can say anything they want that would make sense to them that props themselves up.
I had a narcissist who always began sentences about circumstances with "Most people believe" as though everything this person did was based on what others expect us to believe, not what was true.
When trying to get at the truth they will relate what they are about to say with "other people" say to make it seem like all people believe what they believe. When I have encountered this I come back with; "I don't care what other people think, I only care what is the truth.
Another strange thing is that narcissists seem to often say why the bad guy got caught in a movie. , "if he had been smarter he would not have been caught", when I would say I was glad he got caught. I asked this question one time to this person, "Why do you root for the bad guy" and this person's attitude would be "I'm not", but I know he was, it seems strange to me. Why did they not root for the authorities to catch him?
Often narcissists will lie to avoid having to deal with the experiences and feelings of others. They will pretend someone is not sick so that they don't have to deal with someone else's hardship.
They will lie to impress, to mock and demean and to gain something they want from someone else. Truth is not very important but developing a narrative that fits their desires is all that matters. Many pretenders in the church do this all the time. They will take scripture out of context to make it say what they want but not what God actually said. There is no truth in these people except half-truths which are really whole lies.
It is not possible to be a born-again believer and be comfortable acting in these mentalities of lack of empathy and rudeness.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
"4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. 5 It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, 6 it does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth; 7 it [a]keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
Born-again believers have the fruit of the Spirit that motivates them to be Christ-like.
Galatians 5:22-23
"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Those who love Christ and are indwelt by Him will have this fruit as a continual lifestyle. They cannot think any other way, it is a part of who they are all the time.
We are living in an age of deception in which many if not most people live by feelings and lies not based on truth as well as fight to defend their chosen false beliefs.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 "…2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. 3 For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4 So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.…"
These liars will not support anyone who tells the truth, and they will even do whatever they can to discredit truth-tellers in the eyes of others. They will spin yarns of gossip to gain the allegiance of those who enjoy the lies and gossip.
Narcissists cannot be alone ever, they must surround themselves with others who prop them up. If all others were removed they would have no character at all, because everything is based on feelings and what others think of them.
Our response to these end times of deep deception and ruthlessness must be to keep telling the truth as led by the Holy Spirit and expunge from our lives when possible those who claim to be Christians but live as though they do not need Him.
Many will be so good at the pretense only those who are seeking truth will be able to discern them. They lack the fruit of the Spirit, they fight against sound doctrine, they mock and demean for no other reason than to elevate self. These people have no empathy, kindness or any other compassion for anyone but themselves. They will cry bitterly for themselves but they do not see anyone else.
2 Timothy 1:13
"Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."
We are in continual contact with unbelievers who need Christ, we must speak the good news to them about Christ, but pretenders claim to be Christians but violate more of God's Word than they obey, we must avoid these people.
2 Timothy 3:1-7 " 1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult (ragingly insane) times will come.
2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses,
7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. "
These pretenders are always attending seminars in the search of knowledge to appear superior but they do not seek God when they are alone. We know this because their rank attitude and false confessions never change. They love to boast about things they know but they never feel ashamed of the rudeness and mistreatment of others, rather they justify it all through excuses and wrong interpretations of the actions of their targets.
I have only met a few lovely born-again believers in my lifetime. They were always kind, listened to understand, and spoke truth from the Bible without twisting it. They had no other agenda except to learn the truth from God's Word and speak it boldly to others. They never engaged in covert meanness to control the emotions of others. They never said rude mean things to diminish the humanity of another human being.
These lovely born-again believers who walk with Christ were bold, and honest, confessing their failures and growing in holiness because of it. Their goal and aim was to become more like Christ as they walked with the Holy Spirit. They were not pretentious to elevate themselves, in fact, they had no desire to be above anyone else, this afforded them the attitude of empathy toward the lost and support for their brothers and sisters in Christ.
These born-again believers saw a correction or a challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow, but they never responded to a challenge with rage, but always in humility grateful for the opportunity to grow a little more, or they already knew what to answer from the Scriptures when the challenge was false. They never ran from a challenge or crouched down in fear through the cloak of anger.
The narcissists think their anger shows strength, but it does not, it proves cowardness. Those who are confident and humble have no need to "fight" to preserve a false image. They can take challenges as adventures to be faced.
Ephesians 6:10-17 "10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
Hallelujah! We can be strong forthright and truthful no matter how others choose to act toward us. Our defender lives in us, that is Jesus Christ, we fear no one and nothing.
