The worst part is these types of people do not want to resolve anything; they prefer their false belief based on their jealousy and anger that resides inside of them. They have a tendency to trust those who lie rather than resolve it with the person gossiped about. Fearing the anger of the gossiper, the listener chooses the gossiper over the one gossiped about.
Sadly, these people have friends whom they speak to, convincing those people to believe what the narcissist tells them.
Remember, when we act disrespectfully toward someone because of what others have said about them, we are making a choice to believe something we have not seen for ourselves. This is gossip, and the ones who believe it are the same as those who spread it.
Proverbs 11:13 "A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret."
Never confide in those who are not trustworthy. When we confess a sin or problem we have repented from, the gossip will be more than happy to spread it to whomever will listen, even if we repented and never did that sin again. They do not love anyone enough to share in their grief over sin and rejoice in the repentance. These individuals only care about being superior to others, and they achieve this by betraying a confidence.
Someone who has gossiped never repeats when they hear from the one who confided in them; they always embellish to make it sound worse, or will even make up a lie entirely to be sure the resolved problem still remains in their story.
The Pharisees lied against Christ; they asserted that Christ did His miracles by the power of the devil, causing many people to hate Him.
Matthew 12:23-25 "… 23 The crowds were astounded and asked, “Could this be the Son of David?” 24But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “Only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, does this man drive out demons.” 25 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.…"
Those who love their power over and are dedicated to controlling others will always make others look "less than", to keep people focused on them instead of what God has called them to do.
God was very clear that we are to separate ourselves from troublemakers and liars. Our desire is to walk with Christ unscathed by those who wish to deter us from our walk.
2 Corinthians 6:17
"17 Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord.
“And do not touch what is unclean;
And I will welcome you."
Our purpose and goal are to grow in holiness, continually hearing from God our next marching orders. Those who don't understand our relationship with Christ will mock, demean, and reject what God has called us to undertake.
Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Those who attempt to derail us in our walk are insignificant; they cannot harm us even if they turn every person against us. Christ in us is greater than the devil and everyone else too.
